Set out below are the key changes that we propose
to introduce for residents of Surrey:
to introduce for residents of Surrey:
- We will increase the work in prevention and access to information by running campaigns on improving mental well-being; setting standards for services and providing dementia training. We will respond to carers and introduce one place for information and advisory services
- We will improve the speed and identification of mental health conditions and help people stay independent and at home if that is what they want; using new technologies to support people and new ways of making payments so people can choose what help they need, such as short term breaks
- We will provide health and social care services with specific expertise in mental health to help people maintain their independence by alleviating a crisis or ensuring hospital admissions do not occur unnecessarily and longer than needed when needs suddenly change
- We will improve the quality of care in hospitals to recognise the close links between physical illness and mental health conditions. This will include the identification of a lead for dementia care. Together with the developments in community services we expect this to reduce the numbers of people who are admitted to hospital when this is not the right place for them. This will allow us to make better use of resources in the future
- Where people require long term care, or care at the end of their life, we will provide expert mental health support and training for care homes and staff in alternative forms of accommodation such as sheltered accommodation. We will also ensure that we set and monitor the standards of care provided for people with dementia needs.
